A comforting baked pasta dish featuring tender tortellini, savory meat sauce, and gooey cheese, perfect for busy weeknights or family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1/2 medium yellow onion (chopped)
  • 2-3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • Kosher salt and fresh-cracked black pepper
  • 24 ounces marinara sauce (about 3 cups)
  • 18-20 ounces refrigerated tortellini (uncooked, any variety)
  • 1 and 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 Tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F.
  2. Heat a large, oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Add the ground beef and chopped onion. Cook for about 3-4 minutes until the onion is soft and the beef is mostly browned. Drain any excess fat.
  4. Stir in the minced garlic, Italian seasoning, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 6-8 cracks of pepper. Cook for another minute or two, stirring well.
  5. Mix in the marinara sauce and uncooked tortellini, then add a little more than half of the mozzarella cheese. Gently stir to combine.
  6. Top the mixture with the remaining mozzarella and the grated Parmesan cheese.
  7. Cover the skillet tightly with foil or a lid.
  8. Bake in the oven for 30 minutes.
  9. After 30 minutes, carefully remove the foil or lid. The cheese should be melted and the tortellini tender.
  10. If you want a golden top, switch the oven to broil and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, watching closely to prevent burning.
  11. Once done, remove from the oven and let it rest for 3-4 minutes. Top with chopped parsley or basil if desired. Serve hot and enjoy!
